Is This You?
I work with women in midlife who have struggled to control their weight and are ready to take a women-specific and women-friendly approach to weight loss that can be sustained. My clients are successful entrepreneurs, executives, professionals, and/or women who work at home who are ready to learn the art of smart weight loss.
Do You Relate to Any of the Following?
“I have never been able to keep weight off after I lose it – all of the diets and exercising I’ve done never work for very long. After trying so many things, I’m not sure I believe that I can really do anything that will work. But I still wish that I could.”
“I am tired to trying to lose weight, but I want to prevent gaining more. I’m 30 pounds heavier than I used to be. I don’t know how it happened or how I can stop the weight from continuing to creep up on me.”
“I’d like to feel better in general but don’t want to focus on my weight. There are so many programs, vitamins, and drugs that it’s hard to know what will work for me. I don’t want to develop the chronic illnesses or conditions that I see my friends and loved ones suffering from. I’m finally ready to start taking care of myself”
“I hate exercise. It feels like a chore or punishment. Over the years I’ve tried many types of exercise equipment and clubs, but I always lose my motivation and drop out.”
“I don’t have time or energy to diet or exercise. I’m constantly on the run. There are so many other things that I need to do. Even though I wish I could take better care of myself, it just doesn’t seem possible for me to make time for one more thing.”
If one or more of these scenarios is true for you, read on. You are in the right place!
Why Is EssentialSteps For Women in Midlife?
There are psychological, sociological, and physiological reasons why EssentialSteps is specifically for midlife women.
1. Midlife is accompanied by wisdom gained from our past experiences and life lessons. We know what’s in our best interests, even if it conflicts with “expert” prescriptions and opinions. By midlife, we are too smart to continue doing things that haven’t worked for us in the past.
2. Many women in midlife were raised to take care of their needs after taking care of everyone and everything else. We have learned that this approach leaves virtually no time for our own self-care. By the time we are in midlife, we are finally ready to reprioritize some things to ensure that we are taking care of ourselves so we can optimally enjoy the rest of our life with energy and health!
3. In the United States, many midlife women grew up before the passage of Title IX, the legislation that forced schools to create athletic programs for girls. These women missed learning key attitudes and skills related to exercising, sports, and physical activity. Without much previous experience, much of midlife women’s education and socialization to exercising and fitness has been from companies marketing their fitness products and services. This marketing resulted in many of us spending hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on products and services based upon FALSE notions about how much exercise actually contributes to weight loss and body sculpting for the average woman. Many of us learned to purchase fitness products, not how to develop life-long relationships with the behaviors (such as exercise) that are essential to sustainable weight control.
4. Menopause and hormonal changes alter women’s bodies and complicate weight control. What used to work doesn’t anymore. We need to take a different approach if we are to be successful.
If you identify with any of these reasons and are ready for a new approach you may be a candidate for my coaching services. Also, as you read through the website, check out some of the Success Stories that are down the right side of the pages.
