Evidence-based Consulting

As a translational researcher and women’s exercise motivation and behavior specialist, I understand both the details of researching and evaluating behavior change initiatives and the art of designing effective messaging and behavior change products and services for women. My recommendations are based on a perspective that integrates women’s psychological research with accepted motivational and behavior change theories. Because of my deep understanding of the complexities of women’s health behavior change processes, I am highly regarded as a women’s health behavior consultant who can help shape your women-specific healthy messaging, evaluate the effect, and most importantly, help you achieve improved productivity and health care savings. My consulting and trainings are extremely helpful to clinicians, wellness staff, and copy writers who need improved methods to communicate to their female patients about the ‘Whys’ and ‘Hows’ of behavioral changes that can be sustained.

Why do Women Need a Different Behavioral Approach and Marketing? Most organizations and clinicians accept the research clearly showing that having healthier employees will increase productivity, decrease health care costs and improve their bottom line. But what most don’t know is that there are well-document differences between men and women related to their motivations and barriers to behavioral change. If you offer one-size-fits-all programming, and don’t take these gendered differences into account your will not facilitate behavioral changes that are sustainable or receive an optimal ROI on your investment in prevention and wellness.

I founded the National Center for Women and Wellness in 1997 as the first organization dedicated to understanding and delivering evidence-based behavioral programming that help women make lifestyle changes that they can sustain. I consult with health care and other types of organizations to help them identify which current prevention initiatives may be undermining their female employees’ or patients’ successful adoption of behavior. In addition, I can help you make modest changes in your current programs to enhance the likelihood that your female employees will make permanent lifestyle changes from participating. Alternatively, I can consult with your organization to develop the most effective and empowering behavioral messaging and health campaigns to facilitate long-term adherence, improve health and productivity, and decrease medical costs among your female employees.

Targeting Women is Smart Business

Targeting women may be the most cost effective strategy that an organization can take to producing healthy individuals. Women spend two thirds of all healthcare dollars and make 75-85% of all health care related decisions. They are also the gatekeepers to the rest of their family. Targeting women with methods that they are most likely to respond to is STRATEGIC. This is true for any organization, but even more so for organizations in industries where the majority of employees are female.
